OPEN
WORKSHOP FORMAT
In order to guarantee that all
participants in Open Workshop will get a chance to work together,
we’re going to team writers with actors each month. The month after
you’re given a team, you will rehearse your piece during Open
Workshop. The following month, you will present your piece at Open
Workshop.
So, writers – you’re to find or
write a piece for your actor to rehearse (during the next session)
and then present (in the following month).
And, actors – call your writer to
make sure you get your material ahead of time for rehearsal and for
performance.
Here’s an example of how this
will work:
- at the September session, Actor A is assigned to Writing Team B
- at the October session, Writing Team B will bring material to
rehearse with Actor A
- at the November session, Actor A will present the material to the
group
In October, new teams will be
assigned for rehearsal in November and presentation in January,
etc. We strongly encourage teams to communicate during the month
after an assignment to make sure there is material to be rehearsed
and performed!
In addition to the teamed
rehearsals and performances, a portion of each Workshop date will be
devoted to general presentations. Writer members can bring any
material for presentation, and actor members may present any
material they choose to “audition” for the writers.
OPEN WORKSHOP GUIDELINES
-
In general, ALL
individuals on writing teams are encouraged to become members of
Open Workshop. Within reason, it is acceptable for a writer
member occasionally to present work they have written with a
non-member collaborator.
There will be no
formal feedback. Open Workshop is intended for rehearsal,
experimentation, exploration, and relationship-building.
Writers looking for feedback are welcome to bring their material
to General Workshop. (Writers and actors are encouraged to
share their opinions informally and outside of Workshop
sessions.)
